It's in a small town in OR, where the Mayor doesn't even get paid. Her friends created her a Myspace page and put up the pictures that she had taken to send to Sports Illustrated, before becoming the Mayor.

Some say she needs to resign because she's a bad role model. Others argue that she's a great Mayor and the pictures have nothing to do with her ability as a Mayor.

Like it or not, people in public office are judged on a different standard than people in other professions because they do represent more than just themselves. For example, if pictures of Obama in a speedo appeared on his website, instead of those of him in business suits, people wouldn't take him as serious candidate. It might not be fair, but that is life in the public eye.

In this case, they are making a lot of trouble over photos where, I presume, she was wearing beach attire. Big deal. It's not like she was posing for Hustler or asking men to dial 1-800-HOT-BABE.

For those drawing comparisons, an important point is being overlooked. She's been ASKED to resign, President Clinton was ASKED to resign. Sen. Larry Craig was ASKED to resign. Being ASKED to resign happens to men and women alike.

Now, I don't find her behavior nearly so objectionable as our former President's - not objectionable at all, in fact. But still, distinguish between ASKED and FORCED to resign.

sounds like they have a different agenda, maybe they know something in the town dynamics is going to change maybe someone knows something huge is moving in which means Mayor may soon be a paying higher authority job and they will use any means to get her out. I personally think that if that was all they were able to find to dish the dirt on her then they are lucky to have found such a great Mayor.

I would personally ask them to take down the myspace page until her term was over. There is nothing wrong with the pics or her submitting them into sports ill, however it obviously is distracting from her time in office so it would need to be on hold until that was done.

Out of curiosity, when did 'role model' become part of 'office?' (I know the two notions are joined now--but were they always so? Asking this woman to resign is ridiculous. The pictures were taken only to be sent to Sports Illustrated before she even decided to run for Mayor. She didn't post them herself, her friends did. Other politicians have been known to do much worse and they are still in office. Cut the woman some slack.
